The Stone Soup Leadership Institute (SSLI) is a 501c3 international education organization that develops educational tools and training programs; provides technical assistance and strategic support for initiatives preparing young and emerging leaders to help build a healthier communities. Founded in 1997, the Institute has worked in the Island communities (Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, Vieques and the Philippines) and inner-cities (Baltimore, Cincinnati and Oakland). The Vieques Youth Leadership Initiative is the Institute’s first bi-lingual demonstration project in the Caribbean. The Virgin Gorda Youth Leadership Initiative is 2007-2009 program. Marianne Larned Ms. Larned has dedicated her life to empowering young people to help build a better world. Ms. Larned is the Executive Director of the Stone Soup Leadership Institute and author of Stone Soup for the World: Life-Changing Stories of Everyday Heroes. Ms. Larned is a strategic consultant who uses the Stone Soup metaphor to help people see that when we work together we can do more than we thought was possible. The book and educational curriculum give young and emerging leaders the tools to create invigorated teams, strong economies and healthy communities. Ms. Larned originally came to the BVI in 2005 to work on her next book, Stone Soup for the New World: Life-Changing Stories of Young Everyday Heroes. For over 20 years Ms. Larned has assisted corporate, government, civic and community leaders to develop public-private partnerships that improved public education, health care and economic development. As a former teacher, Ms. Larned developed business-school partnerships for the San Diego, San Francisco and California Chambers of Commerce. As a journalist, she wrote The Business of Education series for the San Francisco Business Times. Clients have included major corporations, health care systems, national associations in business, civic and labor, health, universities and education systems. Ms. Larned has been recognized in Outstanding Young Women of America, World Intellectual, 2000 Notable American Women and the World Who's Who of Women. Her undergraduate studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and the Rudolph Steiner Center in Scotland prepared her as a teacher. Graduate work at Boston University and California State University gave her the business and organizational development skills to build healthy communities. Marsha Reeves-Jews Ms. Jews is an accomplished social entrepreneur who serves on the Stone Soup Leadership Institute’s board. She develops culturally respectful educational programming and technology strategies for educational systems and community based organizations to address the digital divide. Clients have included: Columbia University’s Institute for Learning Technologies; The City of Annapolis’ Minority and Small Business Economic Development Enterprise; The Baltimore Empowerment Zone; National Urban League; Alignment Strategies, Inc; VanJo Productions; and Urban Cyberspace. As President of Career Communications Group, Inc. a ten million dollar multimedia company, she co-founded Black and Hispanic Engineer and Information Technology Magazines, Black Engineer of the Year Awards Ceremony and Conference; Women of Color Technology Awards and Conference; Black Family Technology Awareness Week. Speaking engagements include the EEO Conference on Race –England, The Digital Divide Conference, hosted by the Jamaican Minister of Technology, the International Alliance of Women Annual conference and SASNET Global Technology Conference in Brazzville, Congo. Among Ms. Jews awards include: The Visionary Award/Mercedes Benz Corporation. The Stone Soup Leadership Institute’s Honorary Chairman is Walter Cronkite who leads a prestigious International Advisory Council. Our partners include the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship.
